Cancer survivorship begins at the time of diagnosis and continues throughout the rest of a person’s life, although many people commonly think of survivorship as the phase that begins after treatment is completed or when a patient is discharged from oncology care. In reality, survivorship includes every stage of the cancer journey, from diagnosis and active treatment to long-term follow-up, remission, and supportive care. Individuals with cancer, along with their families, friends, and caregivers, often face physical, emotional, mental, social, and financial challenges throughout this process. The North Dakota Cancer Coalition recognizes the importance of addressing quality of life, ongoing support, and access to resources across the full continuum of care, helping survivors navigate life during and after cancer treatment.
