NDCC Cancer Conference a Success
The North Dakota Cancer Coalition welcomed nearly 80 individuals from across the state to the 2011 Cancer Conference held on May 18th at the Best Western Seven Seas in Mandan, N.D.
During the morning of the conference attendees had the opportunity to meet in one of four workgroup sessions to discuss coalition priorities for the next year. Priorities will guide the implementation of cancer prevention and control efforts in the areas of prevention, treatment/early detection, screening and survivorship.
The afternoon sessions educated attendees with the link between genetics and cancer. Not only did participants gain an increase knowledge in regards to the science of genetic testing; but also heard from two individuals who made the personal choice of genetic testing and tested positive for a genetic mutation which greatly increases their cancer risk.
